Grace is currently a fourth year undergraduate at UCLA, majoring in Human Biology and Society and she aspires to one day become a pediatrician. She likes to say that as much as she loves healthcare and medicine, she also loves people and caring for them. Grace is from Sacramento, CA and one thing she misses most about home (besides her family, of course) are all the trees! She enjoys reading, creative writing, playing with babies, and going on food adventures with her roommates and close friends. Outside of the AHS space, Grace has been involved in the Southeast Asian Campus Learning Education and Retention (SEA CLEAR) project at UCLA as both a mentee and a mentor. Grace also danced with the United Khmer Students for their Culture Night last year and is currently on a dance team with Foundations Choreography to end her senior year with a last hurrah. This is her third year on Board and for this year, Grace is excited to create a welcoming space within AHS for new and returning members to find their home away from home at UCLA.
Cassidy Vang Internal Vice President
Cassidy Vang was born and raised in Sacramento, California. She is in her third year at UCLA as an undergraduate and is looking forward to forming new bonds with incoming Hmong students as well as getting closer to each member of the Hmong community at UCLA. Despite her intimidating exterior, she likes to goof around and is always down for her friends. It may be hard to spot Cassidy because she is rarely ever seen without her cap or sunglasses around campus. However, she is definitely easy to reach through social media and at the bi-weekly general meetings. Excited for this upcoming term, she hopes that she can be a resourceful tool throughout the school year for everyone. Some of her hobbies include singing in the shower, eating spicy noodles, and watching ASMR mukbangs on Youtube. If she’s not napping, she’s probably stuck in a chair focused on her studies but she’s always down for an ice cream or boba break. We look forward to seeing Cassidy inspire others to step out of their comfort zones and step into the mindset of adventure with AHS this year!
Future-Hope Vang External Vice President
Future-Hope Vang is a third year undergraduate student majoring in Psychobiology with plans to attend medical school to become an OB/GYN. Future-Hope was born and raised in Minnesota, and she enjoys visiting her family and four dogs back home. She spends her free time volunteering at the hospital, feeding zebrafish, and singing loudly in her room until her roommates walk in. Besides being a member of AHS, she is part of a sorority called Alpha Gamma Delta, has danced with Foundations Choreography, and performed in last year's Samahang Pilipino Culture Night. As External Vice President this year, she is representing AHS in the Asian Pacific Coalition Board of Representatives, SEA Coalition, and as an outreach coordinator for SEASON, a conference for Southeast Asian students to develop their skills for advocating for their community. This is Future-Hope's second year on AHS Board, and she is excited to keep on advocating and proudly representing the Hmong community.
Jennifer Yang Treasurer
Jennifer Yang is a 3rd-year Geography major. Born and raised in Sacramento, Jennifer is the eldest of six kids and the first of her family to go to college. Some of her hobbies include collecting unique earrings, making lists, studying in Ktown, and camping out for concerts. As this year's Financial Officer, Jennifer will challenge herself to extend her comfort zone and improve her interpersonal skills. Jennifer is happy to return for her second year on board and cannot wait to see how the year will unfold for AHS!
Andy Cha Social Chair
Andy Cha is a fourth year undergraduate majoring in Sociology and minoring in Gender Studies/Labor Work. Andy was born in Sacramento, California. He received his high school diploma from Luther Burbank High School and began attending UCLA in Fall of 2016. Besides being a part of AHS at UCLA, Andy found himself involved with various groups. For the first 2 years Andy was committed to Delta Lambda Phi (an international social fraternity for gay, bisexual, transgender and progressive men). Andy also found the courage to step outside of his comfort zone and joined a competitive dance team, VSU MODERN. As a 4th year, Andy recently got accepted into the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) where he will be mentoring students grade K-12. Last but not least, this is his first year on AHS Board and he is excited to contribute to the club with not only fun, but creating a forever-lasting bond between members of AHS and other orgs. Among these groups, Andy is quite involved in a social environment where he is able to show his strongest trait: BEING YOURSELF. Andy is all about creating a comfortable space everywhere, stepping outside of the box, taking risks and breaking down the norms of society. This year will be an adventure and from Andy himself: “Stay poppin!”
Nickie Yang Secretary
Nickie Yang is a second-year undergraduate student majoring in Biology. She was born and raised in Fresno, California. Nickie was the only student from her graduating class from Sunnyside High School to attend UCLA in Fall of 2018. Even though she came alone, she has found a place to be at UCLA with her friends and club members. During her free time, she loves playing badminton, dancing, and reading manga. Besides being a part of AHS, Nickie is also in High AIMS which is a program designed to guide pre-health and pre-med students on the path to medical school. She plans to apply to medical school and study to become a pediatrician. This will be Nickie’s first year on AHS Board and she’s very eager to contribute to the club, get to know the other Hmong students at UCLA, and help students who want to pursue a higher education.
